Does SMP Hurt?

As our Miami SMP Clinic is getting more popular with good customer reviews, a lot of clients have different questions regarding the procedure.

The most common concern that comes to mind is that whether Scalp Micropigmentation is painful or not. The question is not something to be embarrassed about, everybody is concerned with the amount of pain they must go through, so if you are concerned about the pain, then you don’t have to worry because Scalp Micropigmentation is not that painful. Scalp Micropigmentation is also called scalp tattoo, but it is not like getting a tattoo hence not as painful. Even though it may be a little uncomfortable to get, Scalp Micropigmentation is not a painful procedure.

What Factors Effect The Level Of Pain?

Some factors do contribute to the level of pain that a person must go through. Below mentioned are some points that you can keep in mind:

  • Pain threshold
  • As mentioned above, the pain threshold of the client determines the amount of pain they experience. For example, the treatment can be severely painful for one person but merely a bit uncomfortable for another person. Having different thresholds for pain is natural and is nothing to be worried about.

  • State of the client
  • Sometimes, state of mind effects your tolerance to pain. Jitters and nervousness are common, but can affect your physical pain. So, clear your mind and calm your nerves before the procedure. While some clients find it difficult to sit through a procedure, some clients can just read a book to kill their time.

  • Area to be treated
  • Like some parts of the body are more prone to pain than others, same is the case with the skin of your scalp. Some areas are more sensitive than others. The area around your temple (temporal area), at the front of the skull (frontal area), and the skin just above your ear are more sensitive to a painful stimulus.

If we were to put the pain level on a scale, then on the scale of 1-10, then most of the clients would rate it from 3-10. The pain varies from person to person.  However, most of the clients range it at the medium level of pain.

If you still feel uncomfortable and unsure about the procedures, then there are some ways through which the pain can be reduced or controlled

The simplest way is to ask your doctor for a pain reliever. Pain killers like codeine and percocet are recommended. Common painkillers like paracetamol and ibuprofen can also be used. However, beware of using aspirin as it has thinning effect on your blood and can increase your bleeding.

    Is Scalp Micropigmentation Painful?

Scalp Micropigmentation is not a relatively painful procedure. However, the level of pain also depends on the pain threshold of the client. Everybody has different levels of tolerance to pain. Some are super sensitive while some do not even feel a thing. So, it varies from client to client.
